Head of Environmental, Social and Governance
AboutI am currently the Head of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) for Lekela Power, a pan-African renewable energy platform developing utility scale wind and solar projects. I have over 15 years’ experience working in the environmental and social performance sector primarily focused on large scale infrastructure projects and the development financing sector in Africa. I was drawn to the sector by a desire to deliver responsible investment in growth markets. I am a firm believer that managing ESG risks and opportunities effectively not only creates value for businesses but that it can deliver measurable benefits to society.
At Lekela, I have oversight on ESG performance for a portfolio of projects in South Africa, Senegal, Ghana and Egypt working closely with contractors, asset managers and Company Management to ensure that all Lekela projects are delivered to the highest environmental, social and governance standards. Prior to joining Lekela, I worked as an independent consultant managing environmental and social due diligence, undertaking Environmental and Social Impact Assessments for infrastructure projects in Africa. Prior to that, I worked as a Senior Environmental and Social Consultant for various international engineering firms in the UK including Scott Wilson and URS Corporation.
I hold a master’s degree in Environmental Impact Assessment and Management from Oxford Brookes University, Oxford, UK and a first degree in Environmental Planning and Management from Kenyatta University in Kenya.
