Siyanga Malumo is a Zambian National who studied at the University of Zambia (BA, Business, Economics & Law). He went on to study at McGill University in Montreal (MBA, Finance & Marketing). He also obtained a diploma in French at the University of Madagascar and Portuguese at Escola Cambridge in Lisbon.
Siyanga Malumo is now concentrating his attention on investments in infrastructure and financial services companies. To this end, in 2006 he acquired, jointly with fellow Zambians, the Copperbelt Energy Corporation (a joint venture subsidiary of Cinergy of the USA and National Grid of the UK). This company supplies electricity to the mining companies on the Zambian Copperbelt (which consume 60% of Zambia’s electricity). This was the first time on the African continent that Africans acquired a utility and raised over US $ 120 million without government support or guarantees. Such was the pioneering nature of this transaction that it received the “Deal of the Year in Africa” award in the utilities sector, from Project Finance in March 2007 in London.
