Professor Eli Jidere Bala is Director-General/Chief Executive Officer, Energy Commission of Nigeria. Prof. E. J. Bala was born in Gelengu, Balanga Local Government Area of Gombe State on 19th September, 1954.
After his secondary and higher school education, at the Government Secondary School, Bauchi and Federal Government College, Kano, respectively, he proceeded to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria where he graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering (Second Class Upper Division) degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1977 and subsequently Master of Engineering degree in 1980. He obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) degree in Applied Energy from Cranfield Institute of Technology, United Kingdom in 1984. Professor Bala rose through the ranks from Graduate Assistant in 1978 to become Senior Lecturer in Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 1987 and later became Professor of Applied Energy in 2004. He served severally as Head of Department of Mechanical Engineering, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. From 1993 – 1997 he served as the Rector, Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic, Bauchi, Bauchi State. He joined the Energy Commission of Nigeria in 1999 as a Deputy Director, Energy Planning and Analysis Department and rose through the ranks to the Director-General/Chief Executive of the Commission since 2013 till date.
Professor Bala is a member of many professional bodies and associations, namely: Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Fellow Nigeria Society of Engineers (FNSE), International Association of Energy Economics (IAEE) and Fellow of Solar Energy Society of Nigeria (FSESN).
