Hon. Commissioner Kemela Okara

Job Description: 
Trade, Industry and Investment, Bayelsa State Government
Mr. Okara was re-appointed Commissioner for Trade, Industry and Investment, Bayelsa State in April of this year. Earlier, Mr. Okara had served in the same capacity from April 2014 - February 2016. As Commissioner, Mr. Okara set out a clear vision to make Bayelsa State the model of an African economic success story. In collaboration with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), a State Industrial policy was articulated early 2016 to leverage on Bayelsa State's comparative advantage in Oil and Gas Industrial activity; Power generation, Agriculture and Light Manufacturing. Mr. Okara has also overseen the hosting of the State's premier investment promotion platform, the Bayelsa State Investment and Economic Forum (BSIEF) in 2014 and 2015. 
 
Prior to this Mr. Okara was one of the founding partner of the major commercial law firm Streamsowers and Kohn with offices in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt with a practice focus on Infrastructure, PPPs and Real Estate. 
 
Mr. Okara was also a  regular Columnist with the ThisDay national newspaper writing on politics and the economy. He has also served on the board of a number of companies and as trustee of a number of NGOs. 
 
Mr. Okara was called to the Bar of England and Wales by the Honourable Society of Grays Inn in 1989, in the same year he was admitted as a Solicitor and Advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. He graduated with honors from the University of Middlesex, London, England in 1986.
