Mr Albert Mugo holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering and Masters of Business Administration in Strategic Management, both from University of Nairobi. In 2012, he also completed the Advanced Management Programme from Strathmore University. He is a registered Professional Engineer with Engineer’s Registration Board and a member of institution of Engineers of Kenya. 
 
He has worked in Energy Sector for over 30 years. He started his career as a graduate electrical engineer in Kenya Pipeline Company, before moving to The Kenya Power & Lighting Company (then East African Power & Lighting Company) where he worked as a protection engineer in various stations including the country’s main hydro complex. He then become a planner in the electricity sector in Kenya and Eastern Africa involved power demand forecasting, carrying out studies for prospective power generating and transmission projects as well as development of power generation and transmission lines. He has experience in electricity tariff formulation and has been involved in development of private power projects. 
 
In 2008, he was appointed the Business Development and Strategy Director in Kenya Electricity Generating Company Ltd (KenGen) where he was in charge of planning for growth of the Company as well as implementation of power generating projects with major emphasis on Geothermal development, among other generating resources. Since joining KenGen he has lead the teams developing power projects that include 120MW Kipevu III, 280MW Olkaria, among others. In addition, he has been leading the Geothermal resource development team that is exploring and developing steam for the additional 560MW geothermal. 
 
In January 2014, Mr Mugo was appointed the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of KenGen where he is currently leading a team of Executive Directors in the mandate of rapidly increasing electricity generation capacity that Kenya needs in order to achieve its 2030 Vision. In this position, he will executive a strategy of least cost power development options in order to provide reliable, safe and competitively priced energy to the nation.
