PAGO was the seventh executive dialogue in EnergyNet’s Powering Africa series that covered the specific aspects of the power and energy sectors in Africa. The distinguishing feature of the EnergyNet dialogues is the high level of interaction between government officials, executives and financiers, who are there to share with each other the challenges they face and explore solutions. Members do this by answering questions that they have agreed beforehand. And fellow members are then invited to respond. This makes for lively discussion. And since it is dialogue that is important, there are no presentations. Participants have the opportunity to propose topics for discussion. EnergyNet sets out a framework for the agenda, and proposes broad questions as a possible starting point for the experts. It is those on the ground that have the first-hand experience of the difficulty of doing business, and have to find solutions. The objective of PAGO was to tap this fund of experience for the benefit of both the African gas industry and the countries that have the gas.
